Minneapolis is usually cold and snowy this time of year. We are lucky enough to live in a place that has embraced the weather and created fun family activities that everyone can enjoy. These include winter festivals and ski resorts.
Winter Festivals In the
There are a number of small winter festivals such as the one held in February at Ritter Farm Park. This festival includes an opportunity for a dogsled ride, a ride on a snowmobile and kids crafts. They also have snowshoes available for anyone to try on a first come, first serve basis. This festival is growing in popularity and reservations for the dog sled ride must be made online in December.
Ski resorts in the area may range from a couple of hills at Buck Hill to a large complex like Afton Alps. Buck Hill has tubing and Hyland Hills Ski Area in Bloomington has a ski jump in addition to their other types of ski hills. Check with each resort for pricing and hours of operation. They may also have special events to encourage new skiers and families to try their resort. Most ski resorts will have equipment available for rent and lessons available as well for beginners.
Skiing, tubing and snow boarding can be enjoyed at any of these resorts as they make their own snow.
I know that sometimes it seems like the winter can drag on forever, but if we dress for it we can still get out there and have some fun.
