This outdoor arboretum is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm all year. This attraction has over 1000 acres of gardens designed to inspire homeowners. Many of the gardens are created as if they were backyards. There are also specialty gardens such as the Japanese Garden. Plants are labeled so that people can recreate what they like in their own gardens.
There are many paths that can be hiked and in the spring the flowers are beautiful. This is a great place to let the kids explore the wide variety of plants found in Minnesota. The arboretum also has family activities on the weekends. These activities are free with an admission. There are also guided nature walks available. These are called Walks For the Curious and the expert will point out interesting plants and flowers while giving information on the theme for that weeks walk.
Take time to wander through the wildflower garden area or to wander through one of the other themed areas. There are garden areas dedicated to dahlias, Iris, Hostas and a wide variety of other perennial plants. Guided tours are available as well as self guided tours. Plants are clearly marked for gardeners and landscapers who are interested in planting one of the many plants in their own garden.
Children 15 an under are free and adults are $9 per person. For those who do not want to walk the grounds there is a three mile drive through parts of the park. Gardeners and landscape enthusiasts should plan on spending several hours walking through the many different gardens.
