The maze is created as the corn begins to grow by applying a chemical to the field to keep the corn from growing in the pattern of the maze. The rest of the corn grows normally and by the fall the maze is ready. The largest corn maze in the  United States is located in Shakopee – Severs Corn Maze.

This gigantic corn maze changes every year. Inside the maze there are signs with facts around the theme for the year. Each year there is a challenge involved in finding specific items within the maze before completing.  A map is provided to help guests get through the maze without getting lost.

Severs also has other attractions including:

  • food
  • a corn pool
  • exotic animals to touch
  • a giant slide
  • pumpkin launchers
  • birds to feed
  • A pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins
  • A hay bale maze

My kids favorite, even more than the maze was the corn pool. This is a giant ‘pool’ filled with corn kernels.  I can tell you when they finally got out of it we were finding little pieces of corn in their clothes for the rest of the day.

Plan on spending at least 3 hours at this attraction, depending on how long the maze takes you. Be sure to bring your sunscreen as there isn’t a lot of shade available.
